An 80 grain charge will do about 1500 fps and will slow to a little more then 900. Here it is. #2.Drill 5/32 hole completely through center of arbor housing. #3.Put release agent on arbor ,and everywhere on outside of barrel that could possibly get over flow compound on it.That bullet had a Muzzle Velocity of 1058 and 1407 ft/lb of energy. A patched .570 diameter roundball with an 80 grain load of GOEX 2Fg had a breech pressure of 5,200 psi and a muzzle velocity of 1288. Upping the roundballs powder load to 120 grains raised the breech pressure to 7,900 psi with a MV of 1568 fps.I built and shot a Deerhunter percussion gun and found it to be very accurate and a delight to carry for an old guy. that rifle has moved on to a grandson and he has always placed in the top 3 and often #1 when shooting it in competitions. Pyrodex is not as dense as black powder. Measure with a black powder measure. A hundred grain measures of black powder will throw about eighty grains of pyrodex. Do remove the nipple, maybe even that flash channel manufacturing plug that some call a clean out screw. Put the breech in a bucket of water.
